LIFE AFTER ACTIVE DUTY
ALL SERVICES WELCOME
Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Guard or Reserve – it doesn’t
matter which branch you served in, you may be eligible to enlist in the
Air Force Reserve. There are over 70,000 of us from all branches of
the military, sharing the camaraderie that comes with serving our
country. Anyone who has served in the armed forces will recognize
the honor, respect and loyalty we’re built on. You don’t need four
years of active duty Air Force to succeed in our ranks.
ALL YOUR TIME COUNTS
When it comes time to add up your total length of
military service, your years in the Air Force Reserve
count the same as the years spent in other branches of
the military. Which makes it easy to reach twenty years
of total service (before age 60) to become eligible for

EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES
Since education is essential to our national defense, you’ll always
be encouraged to take full advantage of our training programs. This
includes technical training in your field, tuition assistance
through the Montgomery GI Bill-SR, and enrollment in the Community
College of the Air Force – the only federally chartered institution
with the authority to grant associate degrees and give credit for
job-related technical training. |

RETRAINING POSSIBILITIES
Depending on your interests and the availability of positions, you
may have the opportunity to retrain in a whole new career field.
There’s an abundance of career specialties available, and the vast
majority of our jobs have direct civilian applications.
FREE UNIFORMS
The Air Force Reserve provides all enlistees with a full set of work
and dress uniforms that are yours to keep.
NO BASIC TRAINING
With your prior service experience, you already possess discipline,
understand duty and respect the military. So you won’t be required
to repeat basic training.
NO LOSS OF RANK
In most cases, you’ll enter the Air Force Reserve at the rank or
rate you held at the time of your last separation or discharge.
