THE AIR FORCE RESERVE
The Easiest Transition to Civilian Life
From Active Duty Air Force |
If you’ve decided to leave active duty Air Force (or have already
separated) and you’re searching for new challenges, we know the
transition to the civilian world will not always be easy. But we can
make it easier. In the Air Force Reserve, you’ll gain the
experience, training and rewards that will advance your personal and
professional goals, and help establish a solid foundation for your
future.
Think back on the reasons you chose the Air Force in the first
place. Things like personal growth, camaraderie and cutting-edge
technology. In the Air Force Reserve, you’ll take what you’ve
learned and build on it. In most cases you’ll keep the rank you’ve
earned, plus receive an extra paycheck each month. You’ll also
receive an impressive list of benefits, along with the pride and
honor of continued service to your country.
You’ve already been through basic training, so there’s no need to do
it over again. In the Air Force Reserve, you’ll receive training
that’s directly interchangeable with civilian careers. You may have
the opportunity to either sharpen your current skills, or retrain in
an entirely different field. In addition, you’ll receive tuition
assistance through the Montgomery GI Bill-SR, and you’ll be
automatically enrolled in the Community College of the Air Force –
the only federally chartered institution with the authority to grant
associate degrees and give credit for job-related technical
training.
The time you spend in the Air Force Reserve will also count toward
your Military Service Obligation (MSO). You’ll be immediately
enrolled in our exceptional non-contributory retirement program that
requires just 20 years of military service before age 60.
In most cases you’ll be assigned to a base that’s near your home,
and you’ll remain there for as long as you’re on active Reserve
status. You’ll be in an environment you’re already familiar with,
which will increase your comfort level and allow you to focus more
on advancing your civilian career.

Being in the Air Force Reserve is the best of both worlds.
You get to pursue your interests on the civilian side, then
share the camaraderie that comes with serving your country.
Plus, you’ll continue to have access to base fitness
centers, commissaries and base exchanges, as well as
space-available travel on military aircraft, low-cost life
insurance, health benefits and family support centers. |
