Aircraft Metals Technology
Overview: To incorporate the optimal combination of strength, weight and durability, modern aircraft utilize sophisticated metals and alloys. Aircraft Metals Technologists design, weld, heat treat, fabricate, and machine precision metal tools, components and assemblies for aerospace weapon systems and related support equipment.

Specific Tasks:
- Draw working sketches, make templates and select materials for metal working
- Perform machine tool cutting operations including using lathes and other machine tools
- Weld by oxyacetylene, arc welding, tungsten and metal inert gas and other methods
- Conduct hardness tests to determine results of heat treatment
- Perform precision grinding and remove poisonous or corrosive deposits
Requirements:
- HS diploma or GED. Completion of courses in shop mathematics, metal working or mechanical drawing is desirable.
- Normal depth perception
- ASVAB score of 47 on Mechanical
Training:
- Candidates without prior military experience are required to attend 7.5 weeks of Basic Military Training (BMT) at JB San Antonio-Lackland, TX; followed by Technical Training
