Pest Management
Overview: Birds can be the worst enemy of aircraft jet engines as evidenced by the 2009 Hudson River air crash. In addition to routine insect and rodent control duties, Pest Management personnel apply a variety of devices and techniques to deter birds from airfields and surrounding buildings and areas.

Specific Tasks:
- Conduct surveys and identify insects, reptiles, rodents, birds and weeds
- Determine and implement actions needed to control and prevent infestations of plant and animal pests
- Interact with medical authorities to control health hazards
- Comply with hazardous materials and environmental regulations
Requirements:
- Completion of high school with courses in biology and mathematics is mandatory; chemistry and earth sciences are desirable.
- Possess a valid state driver's license to operate government motor vehicles
- Normal color vision
- No record of fear of insects, animals or snakes
- No record of claustrophobia or hypersensitivity to chemicals or insect, spider, scorpion or snake venoms
- Freedom from fear of heights (acrophobia)
- Minimum ASVAB score of 38 on General
Training:
- Candidates without prior military experience are required to attend 7.5 weeks of Basic Military Training (BMT) at JB San Antonio-Lackland, TX; followed by Technical Training
